TESE (TESTICULAR SPERM EXTRACTION)

Testicular sperm extraction (TESE) was a process of removing the small portion of the tissue from the testicle performed under local anesthesia & extracting the a small number of viable sperm cells which are present in the tissue for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). The testicular sperm extraction procedure was recommended to the men who were unable to produce sperm by the ejaculation that is because of azoospermia, such as that are caused by a primary testicular failure, congenital absence of vas deferens or non-reconstructed vasectomy. This procedure cannot be uses for the men with non-obstructive azoospermia as it wouldn’t sample as much tissue as the microTESE procedure.

PROCEDURE:

  • To perform this procedure, doctors will use very small needle to completely numb the testicle & overlying skin.

  • It will involve the insertion of a small needle directly into the testicle(s), performed under the local anesthesia, without making a skin incision or cut.

  • Hair-thin specimens of the testicular tissue were removed in the space in 15 to 30 minutes.

  • Sperm were been extracted from the tissue & each egg will be injected with a single sperm by using the Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) procedure.

TESE was a safe, relatively low-cost, simple and virtually pain-free method. Most of the men can literally take off some few hours for the method & can return to their normal activity at the same day. In addition to this remarkable success rates with TESE/ICSI, the fact was that unlike vasectomy reversal, the method will allows the man to retain his vasectomy for the future contraception.
